This SIG on GE supports the United Nations commitment to “providing women and girls with equal access to education, health care, decent work, and representation in political and economic decision-making processes which will fuel sustainable economies and benefit societies and humanity at large.”

While there had been progress towards gender equality and women’s empowerment, there are still a lot of female children, and adolescents in the world who do not have access to quality education, and continuing education for women.

These SIG members of GE commit themselves to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls; and provide them with equal access to quality education, health care, representation in decision-making processes, empowerment and leadership opportunities, among others. They still recommend giving voice to girls by empowering them for independence; make men partners in the process of empowering women; educate for attitudinal change of both boys and girls, men and women, from the grass-roots level onward; teacher preparation programs should include fully sensitizing teaching students toward women and women’s issues.
