According to the UNESCO, Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is an essential component of holistic and quality education and is a very vital element for sustainable development. Sustainability is set in motion by the educators themselves. This is a commitment taken to heart by the WCCI delegates on the SIG for ESD.
ESD having emphasis on environmental sustainability should be integrated into the curriculum at all levels with due flexibility with regard to the nature and structure of the course. The integration of ESD in the curriculum should help develop the following values: respect, peace, responsibility, love/care, empathy, patience, and dignity of labor. And the inclusion of ESD in the curriculum should be reflected in school policies, teacher training, and stakeholders’ programs and activities.
